Purpose of the job
The Product Engineer ensures products meet customer performance expectations and quality, cost, and launch readiness. The Product Engineer provides leadership to New Product Development projects and collaborates with the customer and/or design team to ensure products are designed to meet performance and quality expectations.
Essential Job Responsibilities
New Product Development (NPD): Lead new product development projects from discovery though concept, design and production launch. Work with key stakeholders and project team, members to develop desirable solutions that are technically feasible and financially viable.
Project Management: Develop and manage project timelines, charters and deliverable using the fundamental disciplines of project management and the tools in PLEX ERP.
Product Testing: Ensure current and new products perform to customer specifications using validated test methods.
CAD: Work with Product Designers to create, edit and maintain SolidWorks models for new products, while maintaining GD&T discipline.
Quality Function Deployment: Work to understand the customer’s needs and functional requirements and translate them into critical to quality characteristics. Working cross functionally, cascade customer requirements into the product design, the process design and to the Quality Control Plan.
Prototyping: Work with internal and external resources to develop conceptual prototypes of varying complexities to support the needs of each stage in the NPD process.
Product Design: Support the development of new products and the enhancement of existing products through prototyping, computer modeling, FMEA, DOE, FEA, etc.
Advanced Process Development: Research, evaluate and develop new manufacturing processes for new and existing products.
Material Evaluation: Evaluate new materials for potential application in new products. Maintain a deep understanding of customer specifications impacting material properties.
Technical Support: Provide technical support to customers on specifications relative to the application of current products and technologies. Support customer requests for data packages and testing of current and new products.
Support program management: Coordinate work and priorities with program management to support efficient and effective launches of new products and new programs.

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
4+ years of experience in mechanical engineering and new product development. 2+ years of product development experience in automotive or related manufacturing industry.
• CAD Skills, SolidWorks preferred
• Geometric Design and Tolerance (GD&T)
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
• Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
• Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
• Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) or experience with advanced statistical tools such as Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and Design of Experiments (DOE)
• ISO/TS, IATF16949
